What would you take?
The forest fire that is burning in south Jersey had me thinking about a song my good friend wrote awhile back on my way to work this morning. The song is based on what earthly possessions would you take with you if you could only take a few. A lot of people were forced from their homes tonight and today because of the threat of fire to their homes.
So I started thinking, what would you grab with you if you had a few minutes to pack up some belongings and head out because the fire was rapidly approaching? Would you just worry about getting everyone out safely? Would you try to take as much as you could?
I've never been in that situation before, so I wonder if you don't even think about your "stuff" because you are so worried about your family and finding shelter "from the storm". Most of the "stuff" we aquire in a lifetime is merely just that....stuff. It is replaceable. However, what about the things that could never be replaced? The memories, the pictures, mementos from when you first met your significant other stuffed in a box somewhere in the attic? Do you hesitate for those items?
It is a scary thought to me to have your home and life threatened by something that you cannot control. This has happened to so many people in the past few years with all of the natural disasters that have been occurring...
...it just makes me wonder...what would YOU take?
